The leadership of Iraq has requested an apology from Turkey for bombing the civilian airport in Sulaymaniyah, "RIA Novosti" reports.
The explosion occurred near the international airport on April 7, with no casualties or injuries reported.
The Iraqi president stated that the attack was a violation of their sovereignty, and they condemned Turkey's military operations in Iraqi Kurdistan. The Iraqi leadership has called on the Turkish government to apologize, stop the attacks, and resolve internal issues by opening communication channels with relevant parties.
Due to heightened activities by the Kurdistan Workers' Party in the area, Turkey's Foreign Ministry has barred the airspace to flights going or returning from Sulaymaniyah. Turkish Airlines has confirmed that there are currently no flights to Sulaymaniyah but denied reports of their website being hacked from Iraq after the airport was shelled.
