Kyrgyzstan and the United States met in Washington, DC for their fifth annual bilateral discussions to address a variety of problems, namely attempts to return residents from Syria, border security, digital businesses, and expanding English language learning programs in Kyrgyzstan, 24.kg reports.
The two sides underlined the need for an independent and diversified media environment, a strong civil society, and human rights protection. The United States hailed Kyrgyzstan for its leadership in regional integration efforts and praised its attempts to define and demarcate international borders.
They also spoke about immigration processes, job prospects for Kyrgyz people in the United States, information technology, trade, and economic cooperation, air quality and sustainable energy, democracy, and the rule of law. The parties agreed to convene the next round of yearly bilateral discussions in Bishkek.
