Today marks the thirteenth anniversary of the April events in Kyrgyzstan, which resulted in a change of power. Sadyr Japarov, the current president of Kyrgyzstan, addressed the citizens of the country, reflecting on the significance of past popular revolutions, such as the Aksy events, the March and April uprisings, and the last October events, 24.kg reports.
The president acknowledged the high cost of the April People's Revolution, which claimed the lives of around 90 compatriots, but emphasized the bravery and determination of those who stood up against unfair rule. The President highlighted the importance of ensuring people's well-being under a fair system and expressed his commitment to fulfilling the wishes of citizens who sacrificed their lives for their homeland.
He concluded by calling for justice to always prevail in Kyrgyzstan and for the country to achieve development and prosperity. On April 7, 2010, the president was ousted for the second time, resulting in the interim government assuming power. Official figures report that 77 people were killed and 306 were injured.
