Kazakh authorities are reportedly set to increase marginal petroleum prices by 11% to 20%, Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Bolat Akchulakov reports.
Limit retail prices for AI-92/93 are set to rise to $0.45 per liter (now $0.40-$0.41, depending on the region), diesel fuel - up to $0.65 per liter (now $0.51-$0.57, depending on the region), Akchulakov announced during the briefing on April 3.
“To stabilize the domestic fuel market, it is necessary to reduce the price difference between Kazakhstan and neighboring countries. Therefore, we must take a difficult, but at the same time necessary step - to raise the marginal retail prices, in particular, for AI-92/93 gasoline and diesel fuel,” he said.
Akchulakov also noted that the corresponding draft order is set to be published on April 3, but did not specify the exact date of the increase in fuel prices. The Minister later announced the approximate date of entry into force of the order. According to him, taking into account the time for public discussion of the document, it can enter into force on April 12.
According to him, if the difference in prices is not dealt with now, Kazakhstan may face a total shortage of fuel “in the near future”.
