Documentary work on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project is being completed, the Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade Oybek Hamrayev has announced.
Hamrayev said that now the project office has started working in Kyrgyzstan.
"This is an important, strategic project in the field of logistics for us. In addition, there is a project to build the Termiz-Mazari Sharif-Peshowar railway. Works on the construction of these two railways are being carried out in parallel. Now the project office has started its work in Kyrgyzstan. The documentary work of the project is being completed. The governments of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and China are working together to attract international financial institutions to finance the project," - said the official of the ministry.
The construction of the railway connecting China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan is being planned for 25 years. As early as 1997, a memorandum of understanding on the project was signed.
Earlier, the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadir Japarov announced that the construction process of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan (CKU) railway will start in 2023. "This year (2022), we will prepare the technical and economic basis and start construction in 2023. All three countries are preparing for the process. As a result of the project, jobs will be created and our economy will grow," - said then Japarov.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev also touched upon the construction of this railway in his speech at the opening ceremony of the Tashkent International Investment Forum held in 2022.
"Practical efforts are being made to create opportunities to deliver products produced in Uzbekistan to the Asia-Pacific region via the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China railway," - said Mirziyoyev.
Uzbek officials have previously said that once the railway is completed, it will be the shortest route for shipping goods from China to Europe and the Middle East, shortening the shipping route by 900km and saving 7-8 days of shipping time.
The CKU route, which will become the southern part of the China-Europe freight railway, will connect China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan to Central and Eastern Europe via Iran and Turkey. According to the plan, the total length of the railway is about 523km. In particular, 213km will be built in China, 260km in Kyrgyzstan, and 50km in Uzbekistan.
