Tashkent on March 29 opened its first automated public WC room, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Culture and Tourism has reported.
Located on Lokomotiv street in the Mirabad district, the facility operates 24 hours a day and is suitable for people with disabilities. In addition, the women's section has a kiosk to purchase sanitary items and diapers.
Over 150 businesses have been allocated sites for additional WC rooms; plots of 80,100 squire meters are alloted through an electronic auction.
The entrepreneur Kamoliddin Danaboyev, who opened the bathroom, says he was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Tashkent city council. The equipment was imported from China, Belarus, and Russia.
All processes in the toilet are automated. A warning signal is given if the visitor is in the room for a long time. It is also equipped with an SOS button if the user needs help. There is also a separate room for the facility maintenance staff.
In addition, the bathroom has a shower.
According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in 2022, there were almost 7,600 public toilets; in 2017, there were only 200.
