Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting on the rapid development of the country's tourism potential, the press secretary of the president reports.
The number of foreign tourists who visited the country in 2022 increased by three times compared to 2021 (5.2mn, export of the industry - $1.6bn). Within the framework of domestic tourism programs, 11.5mn trips were organized. The establishment of a new tourism center in Samarkand made it possible to attract an additional 2mn tourists.
It was reported that in 2023 the country is preparing to host the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization. In addition, it was noted that Samarkand received the status of the World Tourism Capital of 2023 as one of the high results of the work in this regard.
