Turkmenistan is eighth on the list of countries with the world's cheapest petrol ($0.428 per liter). Global petrol prices reported that, as of February, motor fuel from Turkmenistan's neighbors is cheapest in Iran ($0.053) and most expensive in Uzbekistan ($0.982).
The world's cheapest petrol is available in Venezuela ($0.016) and the most expensive in Hong Kong ($2.942).
The average price of petrol worldwide is $1.30 per liter. Generally, richer countries have higher prices, while poorer countries and countries that produce and export oil have much lower prices.
"One notable exception is the U.S., an economically advanced country with low gas prices."
The differences in prices across countries are due to the various taxes and subsidies for gasoline. All countries have access to the same petroleum prices of international markets but then decide to impose different taxes, Global petrol prices says.
