"Uztransgaz" has denied alleged preparations underway for Russian gas imports.
"We inform you that the material published on March 3, 2023, on the Telegram and Facebook page of Uztransgaz contained incorrect information due to a misunderstanding. The installation work on internal communications and main gas pipelines with gas is not related to the import of gas from Russia." - the company statement reads.
According to the company, current works are aimed at improving the efficiency of gas supply to consumers in the southern regions of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have previously signed a Roadmap with the Russian "Gazprom" on cooperation in the gas industry in January of 2023.
Deliveries were originally scheduled to start on March 1, but the parties have not yet agreed on transit, and cost of imports and have not signed the corresponding agreement.
