The official representative of the "Taliban" movement in Afghanistan prohibited a forced marriage of a 50-year-old man and a 12-year-old girl, Sputnik Afghanistan reports.
Mohammad Sadiq Akif — an official who is responsible for promoting and ensuring the prohibitions of the Taliban — confirmed that approval of this marriage is denied. The initiators of this case are arrested and are now waiting for the court trial.
Taliban banned all forced marriages by claiming that women should not be considered "property", thus no one can force or pressure them into marriage. The decree was announced in 2021 by the reclusive Taliban chief, Hibatullah Akhunzada, Aljazeera informs.
