Tashkent, on January 24, held the 26th meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Council of Ministers. The delegations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Türkiye, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan (host), as well as ECO Secretary General, participated in the meeting.
The high-level event discussed the work carried out in 2022 within the cooperation framework under the ECO and unveiled plans on the Organization's agenda.
Opening the meeting, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov noted that in 2022 significant work was carried out as part of the implementation of the initiatives of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and under the Concept of the Chairmanship of Uzbekistan.
The ECO Secretary-General Khusrav Noziri stated that the Organization highly values Uzbekistan's pivotal role and excellent leadership during its chairmanship in 2022 for the further development of ECO and its agenda of mutual progress and prosperity in the region. Furthermore, the increasing role of the Republic in the activities of ECO was noted.
All of Uzbekistan’s proposals were considered very relevant and supported by all Member States.
On the margins of the Tashkent meeting, there was a constructive exchange of views on the further development of trade and economic ties, expansion of transit and transport opportunities, search for new 'points' of economic growth, and activation of regional tourism. In addition, the importance of promoting cooperation in energy, social welfare, and environmental protection spheres was noted.
Proposals to advance the activities of the Organization in light of modern requirements were discussed.
The event participants expressed their gratitude to the Uzbek side for the active and effective chairmanship and for holding a meeting of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at a high organizational and substantive level.
The 26th meeting marked the conclusion of the chairmanship of the Republic of Uzbekistan in ECO. As a result, the chairmanship of the Organization passed to the Republic of Azerbaijan. Furthermore, the meeting resulted in the adoption of the Tashkent communiqué.
