Acting Assistant Secretary for Global Public Affairs Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau told the Voice of America (VOA) journalist Navbahor Imamova that sees the Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Public Fund for Support and Development of the National Mass Media Saida Mirziyoyeva as 'a relevant person in the system', who has 'expertise and passion for Uzbekistan.'
'We talked about a range of issues: women's rights, gender issues, we talked about the importance of media freedom, and we had a great conversation on disinformation and how it impacts the citizens in the US as well as the citizens in Uzbekistan...' Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau said, adding that 'there are no borders to disinformation.' 'So we need to address this collectively. How do we ensure our citizens have the necessary tools to identify them and get the facts? And this is what we focus on quite a lot now.'
VOA journalist said that the media finds it surprising that US officials meet with the members of the President's family in the region. The US official responded that she appreciates the efforts of the fund chaired by Saida Mirziyoyeva to promote freedom of the press, women's rights, and measures aimed at supporting female entrepreneurs.
'I was very comfortable meeting her (Saida Mirziyoyeva) as head of her foundation which is doing remarkable work not only on women's rights but uplifting women business owners and media freedom. This is someone really passionate and very engaged on this matter. The United States will always meet people who care about the issues as much as we do,
the Acting Assistant Secretary for Global Public Affairs responded.
'So you see Saida Mirziyoyeva as a relevant person in the system?' the VOA journalist asked.
'Absolutely,' the Acting Assistant Secretary for Global Public Affairs responded.
The US official has highlighted that the two sides share mutual principles of combatting common issues through joint efforts.
