Iran intends to help Uzbekistan grow saffron, pistachios, and potatoes, the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources has reported. This was discussed at the meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hamid Nayyerabadi. Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Aziza Voitova emphasized the achievements of Iranian experts on saffron and pistachio cultivation.
Just in September the two countries signed the Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of agriculture at the Samarkand Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The prospects for establishing cooperation on the import of virus-free ‘mini tuber’ potato seeds from Iran were discussed. In this regard, it was decided to establish scientific networking of the National Association of Potato Growers of Iran and the Research Institute of Vegetables, Melons, and Potatoes of Uzbekistan.
It was also suggested to introduce new agricultural technologies for the wheat cultivation in the arid regions of our country. For this, cooperation will be established between the Research Institute of Agriculture in the southern regions of Uzbekistan and the Scientific Research Institute of Agricultural Research of Drylands of Iran.
Parties discussed the opportunities of establishing an Uzbek-Iranian joint working group of relevant departments responsible for the development of the agro-industrial complex of the two countries and to hold this meeting in Tashkent in February 2023.
