According to the Strategic Reforms Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Board of Directors of the World Alliance of International Financial Centers in Casablanca has announced that Tashkent has been granted its observer status, as the republic’s capital has received most of the votes among the WAIFC’s board of directors.
The participation of Tashkent as an international financial center in the activities of the alliance implies the establishment of a pool of international partners to support the activities and development of the International Financial Centre in Tashkent. Besides, it means access to the expertise of financial centers-members of the alliance, participation in working groups, and joint projects of coalition members to develop and digitalize the financial market, implement investment policy goals, and promote Uzbekistan’s investment potential.
WAIFC is a non-profit association registered in Brussels, Belgium, which represents leading international financial centers and facilitates cooperation and the exchange of best practices. As of October 2022, the alliance has registered 21 members and seven observers from New York, London, Frankfurt, Paris, Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Toronto, Busan, Casablanca, Astana, and other financial centers. The Alliance members unite over 60,000 investment firms, 8,000 banks, and 20,000 fintech startups.
