Ilgar Velizade, the head of the "South Kavkaz" club of political scientists (Azerbaijan) expressed his opinion about the visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Turkmenistan.
"The visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Turkmenistan is another clear evidence of the strengthening of the position of official Tashkent in the Central Asian region. This is also a manifestation of the effectiveness of the country's foreign policy. It should be said that Uzbekistan is taking the initiative in this process. Over the past year, including December 2021, the President of Uzbekistan has been on an official visit to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan. At the same time, the leaders of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan paid an official visit to Tashkent this year. The SCO summit in Samarkand, which was attended by the leaders of all neighboring countries, was not included in this account. In addition, within two years, Uzbekistan has significantly updated and improved the base of bilateral relations with all countries in the region. This visit will strengthen bilateral relations and make an important contribution to the development of dialogue processes in the Central Asian region. The trade turnover between the two countries is growing steadily and reached $1bn last year. The parties expect that this number will double in the next few years and the quality of the product turnover will improve," says Velizadeh.
