Tajikistan exported around $32mn worth of goods to Afghanistan, accounting for 80% of the total trade volume. Imports from Afghanistan stood at approximately $8mn.
Electricity remained Tajikistan’s leading export to Afghanistan, followed by cement, coal, mineral fertilizers, and various food products. On the other side, Afghan exports to Tajikistan included agricultural produce such as figs, raisins, and cotton, as well as traditional carpets and precious or semi-precious stones—commodities that are gaining growing popularity in the Tajik market.
Afghanistan continues to hold its place among Tajikistan’s top 10 export destinations, alongside countries like the Netherlands, China, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Iran, Russia, and Kazakhstan.
From January to May 2025, Tajikistan engaged in trade with 107 countries, recording a total foreign trade turnover of $3.9bn—a 2.8% increase year-on-year. However, the country saw an 11.3% decline in exports, which totaled $780mn. In contrast, imports rose by 7%, surpassing $3.1bn.
