The level of gasification in Kazakhstan has reached 62.4% to date, with over 1.7mn people gaining access to natural gas over the past three years. This progress was reported to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during a meeting with Sanzhar Zharkeshov, Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz.

During the briefing, Zharkeshov outlined the national company's recent achievements and key infrastructure developments. Among them is the completion of the linear section of the Taldykorgan–Usharal gas pipeline, which will bring gas to 66 settlements in the Zhetysu region.
Additionally, construction has begun on the second line of the Beineu–Bozoy–Shymkent main gas pipeline and a new facility for the transshipment and fractionation of liquefied petroleum gas at the Kashagan field.
Zharkeshov also highlighted the implementation of a $1.35bn urea plant project, carried out in partnership with Turkish investor ESTA. The project is expected to contribute to the diversification and industrialization of the country’s gas sector.
An important milestone in regional cooperation was noted with the increase in the volume of Russian gas transiting through Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan. Zharkeshov emphasized that this strengthens Kazakhstan’s position as a strategic link in Central Asia’s energy network. At the same time, major repairs are underway on the Central Asia–Center gas pipeline to further reinforce infrastructure reliability.

In line with the president’s instructions on expanding the national gas resource base, several agreements have been signed. These include subsoil use contracts for the Akkuduk and Severny-2 fields, along with a joint exploration agreement with CNPC in the Severny-1 area.
QazaqGaz is also embracing advanced technology, with the introduction of digital solutions such as a supercomputer powered by the latest NVIDIA graphics chips, aimed at enhancing efficiency and data-driven operations in the sector.
President Tokayev concluded the meeting by issuing specific instructions focused on preparing for the upcoming heating season and continuing the strategic strengthening of Kazakhstan’s gas potential.
In June 2025, QazaqGaz, together with strategic partners KOR Oil Company and KazAzot, signed exploration and production agreements with Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry for the Akkuduk and Severny-2 hydrocarbon fields in the country’s western regions.
The agreements are based on an improved model contract that offers tax and regulatory incentives to encourage exploration in less-developed areas. Under a carry financing model, the partners will cover all exploration costs and risks, both geological and financial.
As a subsidiary of the Samruk-Kazyna sovereign wealth fund, QazaqGaz is responsible for gas transportation, storage, and sales both domestically and internationally.
