Uzbekistan welcomed 4.2mn foreign tourists in the first five months of 2025, marking a 48.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024. According to the Statistics Agency, this growth represents an additional 1.4mn visitors compared to the 2.8mn recorded a year earlier.

The majority of tourists came from neighboring Kyrgyzstan, which topped the list with 1.28mn visitors. This figure is nearly double the 649,500 Kyrgyz tourists who visited Uzbekistan in January–May 2023.
Tajikistan followed closely with 993,700 tourists, up from 797,800 in the same period last year. Kazakhstan ranked third, sending 889,600 tourists to Uzbekistan, compared to 656,500 in 2023.
Other key sources of tourists included Russia with 334,300 visitors, Afghanistan with 199,200, and Turkmenistan with 142,500. Turkey and China also contributed to the inflow, with 65,800 and 51,900 visitors respectively. India accounted for 28,500 tourists, while 17,400 came from Italy. An additional 201,100 tourists arrived from various other countries.
One of the most notable increases came from China. In January–May 2023, only 9,600 Chinese tourists visited Uzbekistan. Two years later, this figure surged nearly fivefold to 51,900, indicating growing interest and stronger connectivity between the two countries.
The steady rise in tourist numbers highlights Uzbekistan’s ongoing efforts to develop its tourism sector. The country has implemented visa liberalization policies, expanded international flight routes, and promoted its historical and cultural heritage.
