The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, in collaboration with QazaqGaz, published its gas forecast balance for the period up to 2030. The forecast predicts an increase in gas production to 60.5 bn cubic meters this year, which represents a 2.4% increase from last year’s output of 59.1 bn cubic meters.
The 2023 production data highlights the output from key fields: Tengiz produced 16 bn cubic meters (27.1% of the total), Karachaganak produced 22 bn cubic meters (37.3%), Kashagan accounted for 11.8 bn cubic meters (20%), and other fields collectively produced 8.8 bn cubic meters (14.9%).
The Ministry of Energy reports an increase in the production of commercial-grade gas, expected to reach 28 bn cubic meters this year. Current domestic consumption stands at 20.9 bn cubic meters.
Kazakhstan began receiving gas imports from Russia starting January of that year, following the initiation of exports in October 2023. Russia has started with an export volume of 500 mn cubic meters to Kazakhstan. President Vladimir Putin stated that exports will exceed three mn cubic meters to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
