The project portfolio between Uzbekistan and the World Bank has exceeded $12bn, according to the presidential press service.
On April 10, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with a delegation led by Anna Bjerde, Managing Director for Operations of the World Bank Group, to discuss further developing the strategic cooperation aimed at supporting Uzbekistan’s economic reforms.

Anna Bjerde began the meeting by conveying greetings and best wishes from World Bank President Ajay Banga to President Mirziyoyev. The discussions focused on the impressive outcomes of the partnership in recent years, with both sides expressing satisfaction over the substantial results achieved.
The World Bank has been a key partner in Uzbekistan’s transformation, providing financial, advisory, and technical assistance to ensure sustainable development in priority sectors of the economy and society. With the support of the World Bank, Uzbekistan has enhanced its project mechanisms, including adopting new procedures to accelerate project preparation and improve overall quality.

Looking to the future, the two sides agreed on several key areas for continued collaboration. These include creating jobs for women and youth in the tourism sector, supporting the private sector, advancing public-private partnerships, and transforming state-owned enterprises.
Special emphasis was placed on plans to reduce carbon emissions, modernize urban infrastructure, improve energy efficiency, and promote Uzbekistan’s WTO membership.
On the sideline of the Samarkand International Climate Forum, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Ecology and the World Bank launched the $153mn Uzbekistan Resilient Landscapes Restoration Project (RESILAND), aimed at rehabilitating degraded forests and lands across Central Asia.
