Xinjiang Qianyuan Kunyu Construction Engineering, a Chinese company, has announced plans to build nine mini-hydroelectric power plants in Uzbekistan.
The investment agreement for the project was signed during a meeting between Ilzat Kasymov, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade, and Hou Hue, General Director of Xinjiang Qianyuan Kunyu Construction Engineering. The planned mini-hydroelectric plants will be located on the Karadarya River in the Andijan region.

The project aims to establish a series of small hydroelectric power plants to enhance energy production in Uzbekistan. During the meeting, technical details and next steps for the development of the power plants were discussed.
In addition, on April 8, Kasymov met with Wang Licheng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Holley Group, to review the progress of the Great Silk Road Industrial Technopark project in Almalyk. This industrial zone, covering 227.4 hectares, is expected to host over 100 projects worth $1bn, generating around 3,000 new jobs.
Earlier, Chinese investors pledged to initiate multiple projects in Uzbekistan's Bukhara region, such as a plant for producing LED lamps and a 4-star hotel.
In 2M25, China maintained its position as Uzbekistan's largest trade partner, with a trade turnover of $2.08bn. While this represents a slight decrease from $2.12bn in 2024, it remains a significant increase compared to $1.33bn in 2023. China's share of Uzbekistan's total trade stood at 19.2%.
