Uzbekistan has emerged as the leading importer of Kazakh grain, purchasing 3.3 mn tons in 2024, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.
Significant Growth in Supplies to Uzbekistan
From September to December 2024, grain supplies to Uzbekistan increased by 45% compared to the previous year, reaching 1.5 mn tons.
Restoration of Exports to Iran and Azerbaijan
In addition to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan has successfully restored grain exports to Iran and Azerbaijan. Exports to Iran grew by an impressive 30-fold, reaching 455,000 tons, while exports to Azerbaijan totaled 188,000 tons, a notable rebound after a complete halt in 2023.
Total Exports and Key Buyers
Overall, Kazakhstan exported 8.1 mn tons of grain in 2024, part of a total transport of 10.6 mn tons. Other significant buyers included Tajikistan, which imported 1.2 mn tons (a 20% increase), and China, with 1.7 mn tons. In the autumn months alone, Kazakhstan shipped 5 mn tons of new crop grain, a 50% increase from the same period last year.
Kazakhstan’s Export Potential
Kazakhstan’s grain export potential is estimated at 12 mn tons, with 7–7.5 mn tons of wheat, 1.4 mn tons of barley, and 300,000 tons of corn. Additionally, the country has significant oilseed export potential, exceeding 1 mn tons.
