Kazakhstan and Armenia strengthen agricultural cooperation for mutual growth

Kazakhstan and Armenia strengthen agricultural cooperation for mutual growth

In a move aimed at bolstering bilateral ties, Kazakhstan and Armenia have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in the agricultural sector. This initiative comes as both nations seek to capitalize on mutual strengths and opportunities in agricultural trade and technological exchange.

The meeting between Aidarbek Saparov, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Armen Ghevondyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia, stressed the shared desire to deepen agricultural collaboration. Minister Saparov expressed optimism about expanding trade in agricultural products, noting a modest increase of 0.8% in trade volume by the end of 2023.

"Both countries possess untapped potential for expanding our agricultural trade," Minister Saparov remarked, highlighting specific areas for potential growth.

Kazakhstan aims to increase exports of fresh fruits, early vegetables, and nuts to Armenia, while also exploring opportunities in confectionery, pasta, chocolate, and dairy products. Conversely, Armenia seeks to import more agricultural products such as meat, meat products, and sunflower oil from Kazakhstan.

Ambassador Ghevondyan echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Armenia's interest in collaborating on seed production, grain supplies, and ensuring phytosanitary safety.

"Kazakhstan's high-quality wheat, renowned for its gluten content, presents a valuable opportunity for increased exports to Armenia," Ambassador Gevondyan stated, seeking Kazakhstan's support in facilitating these exports.

Following their discussions, both parties reached an agreement to intensify cooperation in various facets of agriculture. This includes joint efforts in the selection and seed production of drought-resistant varieties of grains and leguminous crops. Furthermore, they committed to exchanging knowledge and technologies, as well as enhancing phytosanitary measures to ensure the safety and quality of agricultural imports and exports.

The collaboration between Kazakhstan and Armenia in agriculture is expected to strengthen economic ties and foster sustainable development in both countries. By leveraging their respective strengths and addressing mutual agricultural needs, Kazakhstan and Armenia are poised to create a robust framework for future cooperation in the agricultural sector.
