The inaugural UNICEF gala dinner in Kazakhstan, titled A Sky Full of Stars, successfully raised KZT 92.6mn ($181,188) to support a digital inclusion program aimed at fostering inclusive education. The funds will benefit over 2,000 children with tailored educational needs, helping them develop essential digital skills.
Hosted at the St. Regis Astana, the event reflected UNICEF's global tradition of uniting leaders from business, culture, and the arts to champion children's rights.
Dr. Rashed Mustafa Sarwar, UNICEF Representative in Kazakhstan, emphasized the importance of such collaborations, stating:
"Through partnerships with businesses, we can expand access to inclusive education, creating opportunities for all children to unlock their potential. Together, we can build a world where every child's rights are protected."
Since 2021, the program has made significant strides in Kazakhstan's pilot regions. It has equipped 131 visually impaired teenagers with essential digital skills, providing laptops, smartphones, and specialized software. Additionally, instructors received training to support visually impaired students, fostering independence and improved access to education.
The gala featured an auction offering unique items, including a traditional chapan robe, an anthology from singer Bibigul Tulegenova, a signed cycling jersey by Mark Cavendish, a painting by Kazakh artist Zeynep Tusipova, and a tennis racket autographed by Elena Rybakina.
Performances by UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors Ninety One, the Astana Opera soloists, and a children’s choir added to the night’s allure. Guests also participated in a raffle featuring prizes donated by event partners.
The success of the event was made possible by the contributions of notable individuals and organizations, including Bibigul Tulegenova, Nurlan Smagulov, Toyota Motor Kazakhstan, and others. Special thanks were extended to Turkish Airlines, Sheraton Hotel Astana, Rixos Borovoe, and the St. Regis Astana for their support. Organised by ZAVOD Events Agency, the evening also received backing from media partners such as Tatler Kazakhstan magazine, MYD Production, and Freedom Ticketon.
The funds raised will equip children with specialized educational tools, enabling them to overcome barriers and build confidence in their academic pursuits.
