Uzbekistan-based Fly Khiva Group has taken a step in its expansion by receiving its first Boeing 757-300 passenger aircraft, marking the start of its venture into passenger services. The aircraft, leased from Icelandair, landed at Tashkent International Airport ahead of its inaugural flight, scheduled for December 6.
The 22-year-old airliner, powered by Rolls-Royce RB211-535 engines, features a dual-class configuration with 225 seats, including 22 in business class and 203 in economy. This is the first of two Boeing 757-300s that the privately-run airline is acquiring under a wet lease agreement with Icelandair.
Fly Khiva’s passenger services will initially focus on domestic routes, connecting Tashkent to Urgench, Nukus, Termez, Fergana, and Namangan. Internationally, the airline plans to operate flights to Saudi Arabia and introduce charter services to destinations such as the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Israel, Greece, India, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, and Latvia. The Boeing 757-300’s range of 5,100 kilometers makes it ideal for these medium-haul operations.
Fly Khiva began its journey in February 2024, receiving its air operator’s certificate and launching cargo services in June with a Boeing 767-300 Freighter, also leased from Icelandair. The move into passenger services was a strategic decision influenced by Icelandair’s support and the availability of suitable aircraft.
Fly Khiva brings extensive expertise to its new operations. Initially established as a ticket sales office, the group has acted as the general agent for Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Additionally, its travel agency specializes in organizing pilgrimage flights to Mecca, offering a solid foundation in passenger services.
