Dilorom Yuldosheva, an entrepreneur from Uzbekistan, has been recognized in the BBC’s 2024 100 Women list, celebrating inspiring and influential women from around the world. She joins a distinguished group that includes Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nadia Murad and actress Sharon Stone.
In 2022, Yuldosheva faced an unimaginable tragedy when she lost both her legs in a harvest accident. However, she refused to succumb to despair. Instead, Yuldosheva focused on overcoming adversity and began a new chapter by opening a sewing business.
Determined to help herself and other women in her community, she offered employment and taught sewing skills to over 40 women, including basics of entrepreneurship and resource management.
Her business flourished in just a few months, and Yuldosheva secured contracts to create uniforms for workers and schoolchildren. What began as a personal recovery effort grew into a thriving venture that provided income for dozens of women, helping them support their families.
Each year, the BBC's 100 Women project highlights 100 women from across the globe whose work and lives serve as sources of inspiration. All women featured on the list agree to be included.
This year, the BBC focused on the theme of "resilience," recognizing that many women around the world have faced extraordinary challenges. The selection process aimed to highlight those who, through their resilience, are making significant strides to create positive change and improve lives, both locally and globally, according to the BBC team.
