The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) is announcing its upcoming annual conference, “Promoting Sustainable Development in Central Asia," which will take place on December 6th in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
This pivotal event aims to host end-of-the-year discussions on the most pressing we have identified in 2024:
- The need for sustainable and rapid growth to combat poverty in Central Asia,
- Solving the transport connectivity conundrum, which is especially felt in the landlocked countries of Central Asia. And this might be a structural constraint, but could also drive the region faster towards becoming a global transport hub,
- The organic and integrated development of the water, energy and food nexus as a foundation for security, peace and development.
During the conference, the EDB’s analytical team is also launching the Bank’s new interactive Database on MDB Non-Sovereign Financing in Eurasia, which is going to aid in gathering data in such investments within the region.
With the theme of this year’s conference centered around enhancing regional cooperation and sustainable development, participants will engage in dynamic discussions on key topics such as trade facilitation, investment strategies, and innovative solutions for infrastructure development.
The guests and speakers of the event are going to include representatives of the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Institute of the Islamic Development Bank, the World Food Program, the UN Developmental Program, the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), UN Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) and government officials.
Panel discussions will address critical challenges faced by the Eurasian region, while also highlighting success stories and best practices from various sectors:
- Session 1: Partnerships in Central Asia: Addressing Global Challenges Through Local Lenses
- Session 2: Connectivity in Central Asia: the MDB Approach
- Session 3: Scaling-up DFIs funding and co-financing streams in Central Asia: challenges and opportunities
- Special Presentation: UNFCCC Technology Mechanism for Climate Impact in Eurasia and Central Asia
The conference will also provide a platform for stakeholders to network and share knowledge, fostering valuable partnerships that drive economic growth across member countries.
The EDB invites all interested parties to register for the conference and participate in this critical dialogue on shaping the future of economic integration in Eurasia. Early registration is encouraged, as space is limited.
