Roman Sklyar, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, recently met with the management of China Huadian Corporation, a leading state-owned corporation specializing in electric and thermal energy production.
The meeting focused on a significant energy project in Mangistau Oblast, where a 160 MW combined-cycle power plant is set to be built. The plant, which is expected to become a key source of electricity for the region, has an estimated investment of $190mn.
Li Xuhong, Vice President of China Huadian Corporation, outlined the company’s plans to expand its energy footprint in Kazakhstan, including the development of new projects such as cascade hydroelectric power plants on large rivers.
The corporation also shared its efforts to modernize traditional power generation sources to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
This collaboration stresses the growing strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China in the field of sustainable energy, reinforcing both countries’ commitment to enhancing energy security and environmental responsibility.
In early November, Kazakhstan secured an allocation of 250 to 600 square meters of space within the China-SCO Regional Trade and Economic Cooperation Pilot Zone, located in Qingdao, Shandong Province. Provided free of charge under a recent agreement, this initiative seeks to bolster trade and investment ties between Kazakhstan and China.
