The first direct flight of Somon Air, Tajikistan’s national air carrier, landed at Tbilisi Airport on May 23 from Dushanbe. The flight crew was greeted by the management of Tbilisi and Batumi Airports, and a cake-cutting ceremony was held.
Somon Air announced its plans to expand its network to Georgia, with the first flight arriving at Tbilisi Airport. This direct flight is expected to provide mutual benefits for the citizens of both countries, facilitating hassle-free travel for tourists.
On May 15, Somon Air's CEO Abdulkosim Valiev announced air connectivity between the capitals of Tajikistan and Georgia. Valiev stated that the flight would act as an air bridge between the two countries, allowing citizens to experience each other's history, culture, and traditions. He also noted that the flight is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and support development.
Initially, the flight will operate once a week. Based on public response, the frequency of flights may be increased. The flight departs from Dushanbe at 09:00 and from Tbilisi at 12:40 (GMT+5).
Somon Air is an airline based in Tajikistan and a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). All aircraft are named after national heroes and historical figures. The airline operates flights to nearly 25 countries, including Germany, India, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, China, Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
