The meeting, held on January 10, aimed to assess the current status and future potential of the diverse partnership between the two nations.
The high-level talks delved into various aspects of the bilateral relationship, emphasizing the need for increased collaboration in economic diplomacy. Both parties expressed a commitment to boosting trade turnover, attracting investments, and jointly implementing strategic projects. The discussions also encompassed the schedule of upcoming events in both bilateral and multilateral formats.
Diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Uzbekistan were established in 1992, shortly after Uzbekistan gained its independence. Since then, the two nations have worked to strengthen their ties across various sectors, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.
Notably, Uzbekistan has made significant strides in trade relations with Kuwait. In 2021, the country exported goods worth $1.03mn to Kuwait. Key exports included Rubber Apparel ($821,000), Grapes ($43,500), and Apples and Pears ($38,200). Over the past two decades, Uzbekistan's exports to Kuwait have experienced an impressive annualized growth rate of 25.3%, escalating from $9,110 in 2000 to $1.03mn in 2021.
In 2023, the relationship took to the skies as Jazeera Airways, Kuwait's second national airline, announced plans to launch a new flight route connecting Ferghana, Uzbekistan, to Kuwait. The proposal was unveiled during a meeting between Khairullo Bozorov, the regional governor, and Ildar Abubekirov, Jazeera Airways director for Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The discussions revolved around the Kuwait-Ferghana-Kuwait route, with both sides exploring the potential expansion of Jazeera Airways' services from Fergana International Airport.
