Tajik President Emomali Rahmon began his official visit to Kuwait on November 3, engaging with the country’s leadership to enhance bilateral relations. This visit resulted in the signing of nine key agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation between Tajikistan and Kuwait, as reported by the President's press service.
In a ceremony attended by Rahmon and Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, the two nations formalized several important documents. These included a Memorandum of Cooperation between their Foreign Ministries, a protocol to amend the double taxation agreement, and a memorandum on labor regulation in the private sector.
Additional agreements covered trade and industrial cooperation, as well as a collaboration between Tajikistan’s National Information Agency “Khovar” and Kuwait’s State Information Agency “KUNA.” Memorandums addressing sports, standardization, and physical culture were also signed, alongside an executive tourism program for 2024-2026.
President Rahmon emphasized a commitment to "take practical steps to strengthen our relations further," underlining the importance of increasing the intergovernmental joint commission’s activities and establishing an Entrepreneur Council and a Joint Investment Fund. He expressed gratitude to Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for the Kuwait Development Fund’s support of critical projects in Tajikistan, particularly in road construction, energy, and irrigation.
The discussions also focused on expanding Kuwaiti investments in Tajikistan's light industry, food production, metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. The Emir of Kuwait recognized Rahmon’s efforts to empower women, noting Kuwait's similar initiatives.
The memorandum on labor regulation in the private sector was celebrated as a significant advancement in cooperation. President Rahmon expressed hope for Kuwait's support of Tajikistan’s initiative for a UN resolution declaring a “Decade of Peace for Future Generations.”
Further discussions included attracting Kuwaiti investments for agricultural exports and drinking water supplies to Kuwait. Rahmon welcomed the Kuwaiti government's announcement to open an embassy in Tajikistan.
Both leaders expressed interest in fostering cultural exchanges, scientific conferences, and educational collaborations. In a meeting with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Abdullah Saleh Alyahya, they reaffirmed their alignment on various international and regional issues, particularly in water and climate initiatives.
In a separate meeting with Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, they discussed labor migration and the importance of bilateral cooperation in combating terrorism, extremism, and other global challenges.
