Uzbekistan Airways has expanded its fleet with the addition of two wide-body Airbus A330 aircrafts acquired on a one-year wet lease from fellow Uzbek carrier Qanot Sharq. These A330 aircrafts are equipped with Rolls-Royce trent 700 engines and are designed for long-haul flights exceeding four hours.
On the addition of the two Airbus A330 aircrafts, the chairman of the board of Uzbekistan Airways Shukhrat Khudaykulov said
"The decision to acquire A330 aircraft was made as part of the airline's development strategy and Uzbekistan Airways' plans to expand its flight geography and increase the frequency of existing routes. Our goal is to consistently grow each year to maintain Uzbekistan Airways' status as one of the most reliable and safe carriers on the international stage".
Initially these aircraft will operate on the route from Tashkent to Istanbul with future plans to expand services to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Seoul, South Korea.
The first of these planes UK-33020 began service on May 20 operating the Tashkent International-Istanbul Airport-Tashkent rotation. These aircrafts which were previously used by Qanot Sharq for leisure and Umrah charters until 25 April 2024 can accommodate up to 265 passengers including 18 in business class and feature a hybrid livery with Uzbekistan Airways branding.
The airline operator say that this acquisition aligns with thier strategy to enhance their international service offerings providing passengers with more options and increased comfort on long-haul flights. The integration of these A330s is anticipated to bolster the airline’s capacity and service quality particularly on high-demand international routes.
