Uzbekistan and South Korea have agreed to jointly develop two "dry ports," aimed at enhancing logistics infrastructure in the Central Asian country.
The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan announced the collaboration following talks between representatives of the Center for Research on Transport and Logistics Development and the Port Investment Department of South Korea's Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
During the discussions, the focus was on creating logistics infrastructure through the development of a feasibility study for dry ports and inland terminals in Uzbekistan's Syrdarya and Jizzakh regions. The project, which was first proposed in March 2024, is slated for presentation in September 2025.
The initiative is expected to bolster Uzbekistan’s position as a key transport hub in Central Asia, improving its logistics network and attracting investment. Upon completion, the dry ports are anticipated to streamline the movement of goods within the region, making Uzbekistan a more attractive destination for trade and commerce.
Both sides formalized the agreement by signing a framework accord that outlines their cooperation in developing the feasibility study for the dry port projects.
Earlier, several new airlines from Uzbekistan announced plans to launch regular flights to South Korea, enhancing air connectivity between the two nations. Among the carriers preparing to start operations are Air Samarkand, Qanot Sharq, and My Freighter, which operates under the Centrum Air brand. Uzbekistan Airways will also continue its existing flights to South Korea.
