At the eighth annual Congress of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan (WOSCU), held in Tashkent and Samarkand from August 23-26, international scientists and scholars adopted a resolution in support of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s call for "enlightenment against ignorance" and the elimination of Islamophobia. The participants, representing 35 countries and including prominent figures from organizations such as the International Organization of Turkic Culture, the Muslim World Islamic League, the Al-Furqan Foundation and the International Turkic Academy emphasized that education on Islam should be the cornerstone of Uzbekistan's forthcoming heritage projects.
In their declaration, the scholars noted:
The Congress also approved 150 new WOSCU projects globally aimed at showcasing the significant contributions of Oriental scholars to world civilization. The scholars praised Uzbekistan’s investments in constructing Tashkent’s Center of Islamic Civilization and the Imam al Bukhari Spiritual Center near Samarkand.
“We consider it our most important task not only to join the activities of the Center of Islamic Civilization, but also to create a powerful and rapidly developing scientific and cultural platform that will become a bright beacon of enlightenment and knowledge in the East," the participants stated.
In a letter to President Mirziyoyev, the participants expressed their full support for his initiatives.
They also acknowledged his broad support for a humane interpretation of Islam, as articulated in his address to the United Nations, and his emphasis on spiritual enrichment. The Declaration, adopted at the congress’s plenary session, further stated:
