A new era of trade connectivity is set to dawn with the launch of a direct container train route from Ulyanovsk, Russia to Turkmenistan, as reported by TASS and confirmed by Alexey Russkikh, the governor of the Ulyanovsk region.
The newly agreed route, Ulyanovsk – Ashgabat – Inche-Burun/Serakhs, traverses the eastern corridor known as the "Middle Volga – Caspian – Persian Gulf". Designed in collaboration with Turkmen Railways, this corridor will facilitate rapid transit of Russian goods into Turkmenistan and onward to neighboring markets including Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan.
Key agreements for the launch of the block train include meticulous route planning, roadmap development, synchronization of operational schedules, and utilization of railway and sea terminals at Turkmenbashy port.
Governor Alexey Russkikh emphasized the economic benefits of the new route, noting that it will provide efficient access for Russian exporters to Turkmenistan and regional markets. He highlighted the potential for increased trade volumes and enhanced economic cooperation between the two nations.
The initiative follows a high-level delegation visit from the Ulyanovsk region to Ashgabat, where discussions centered on establishing a dealership center for Ulyanovsk-produced goods in Turkmenistan. Concurrently, Ulyanovsk entrepreneurs finalized contracts worth 10 mn rubles ($113,800) with Turkmenistan.
