The Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and Minister of Economy and Finance, Jamshid Kochkarov, held a meeting with representatives of a Japanese delegation led by Tadashi Maeda, Chairman of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), on July 9.
The meeting included prominent figures such as Masayoshi Fujimoto, Chairman of Sojitz Corporation; Kamil Yanikomeroglu, Chairman of the Board of Ronesans Healthcare; Cem Ozoguz, Chairman of the Board of Ronesans Eurasia; Fusa Kodji, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GVE; and several key officials from Uzbekistan's Ministry of Economy and Finance. The primary aim was to bolster economic cooperation and explore new avenues for mutual growth.
Established in 1999, JBIC has played a pivotal role in enhancing Japanese exports and promoting international economic activities. As of 2023, JBIC's total assets amounted to $150bn. In Uzbekistan, JBIC has facilitated 11 projects totaling $2.6bn, pointing its notable contribution to the country's economic development.
Sojitz Corporation, one of Japan's largest and most diversified trading companies, engages in extensive global operations. The corporation's activities span international trade, investment, domestic production and sales, service provision, and project planning and coordination both within Japan and internationally.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on several critical topics, reflecting the ongoing large-scale economic reforms in Uzbekistan and the commitment to sustainable economic growth. Discussions centered on advancing the green economy and ensuring green growth across various sectors, including the energy sector's further development. The conversation highlighted the importance of forming and implementing public-private partnership (PPP) projects in health and energy sectors, utilizing renewable energy sources, and improving energy efficiency. The development of modern roads and railways was also a crucial topic, with discussions on leveraging international experience to implement these projects effectively.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to further develop and expand the cooperative relations between Uzbekistan and Japan. Both parties acknowledged the potential for mutually beneficial collaborations and committed to fostering a strong partnership to support Uzbekistan's ambitious economic agenda.
