The government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have entered into multiple strategic agreements to enhance and further their long-term partnership in pursuing national development goals.
More specifically, UNDP and the government of Turkmenistan have launched new initiatives to support the country in accelerating progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The first initiative is the project “Capacity Building for the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan,” which aims to bolster the electoral system and enhance the capabilities of Turkmenistan's election commissions by sharing international best practices and providing relevant training activities. This project is funded by the government of Turkmenistan and will be jointly implemented with the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan.
Another key initiative is the project “Enhancing the Capacity of the Board of Lawyers in Turkmenistan in Ensuring Human Rights,” which focuses on enhancing legal aid provision aligned with international standards. This project is funded by the UK Government and will be jointly implemented with the Presidium of Boards of Lawyers in Ashgabat city.
