A Turkmen delegation comprising representatives from customs, border, and migration services, as well as the Turkmenavtoulaglary and Turkmendemiryollary Agencies, visited the Lotfabad customs post in Iran's Khorasan Razavi province, on July 3. The visit was part of the second meeting between the border departments of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as reported by the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.
The Iranian delegation included the head and staff of the Lotfabad customs post, the head of the border post, officials from the municipality of Razavi Khorasan province, and representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs addressing passport and visa issues.
One of the primary issues discussed was the extension of the operational hours for the Artyk-Lotfabad customs posts from November to January. This extension aims to facilitate smoother cross-border trade and travel during peak periods.
The parties explored developing a mechanism for mutual data exchange and expedited visa processing for truck drivers from both countries. This initiative is expected to enhance the efficiency and speed of cross-border transportation and logistics.
The possibilities for utilizing the Lotfabad railway crossing were also considered, which could significantly boost rail connectivity and trade between the two nations.
A representative from the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan highlighted the new rules on preliminary information. From June 1, 2024, carriers will be able to submit information about goods to the customs authorities before their import into Turkmenistan. This measure is intended to streamline customs procedures and reduce delays.
An official from the Turkmendemiryollary agency presented a detailed schedule and pricing structure for rail transportation, offering insights into the logistics and economic benefits of rail trade.
In addition to the discussions, the program included a memorial ceremony for Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who tragically died in a helicopter crash. A monument was unveiled in their honor at the Lotfabad customs post, with representatives from both countries' embassies in attendance.
The Turkmen delegation was given a tour of the Lotfabad checkpoint's infrastructure, providing them with an overview of the facilities and operations at the post.
