In the first half of the year, Uzenergoinspektsiya, Uzbekistan's energy inspection agency, identified 75 instances of illegal cryptocurrency mining amounting to UZS 81.6 bn ($6.5 mn). These cases resulted in the recalculation of 15.9 mn kWh of electricity, as reported by the department’s press service.
During the first six months, Uzenergoinspektsiya discovered the unauthorized use of electricity and natural gas by more than 4.5 thousand industrial and household consumers. Specifically, 163.3 mn cubic meters of gas and 220.7 mn kWh of electricity were stolen, amounting to UZS 550.29 bn ($44 mn).
Among the violators were 89 methane filling stations (CNG filling stations), 94 greenhouses, 94 textile enterprises, and 2 lime producers. Law enforcement agencies have opened nearly 3.4 thousand administrative cases, with more than half involving electricity theft. The control and chemical laboratory of Uzenergoinspektsiya conducted quality checks of petroleum products at gas stations, identifying 91 violations and preventing the sale of 3.8 mn liters of low-quality gasoline.
In the January-June period, Uzenergoinspektsiya examined 5.3 thousand power supply projects with a total capacity of 989 MW. Less than two-thirds of the applications were approved. Additionally, the agency issued written instructions to 23 thousand consumers to install devices for reactive power compensation and fined 927 consumers for non-compliance.
