Turkmenistan has announced its decision to raise the daily limit for commercial cargo trucks crossing into Afghanistan from 100 to 120 per day. This development follows discussions held between Batur Yulov, the Consul General of Turkmenistan in Afghanistan, and Sheikh Mawlana Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the Governor of Herat Province.
Consul General Yulov highlighted that Turkmenistan has recently completed repairs at the Noor Jihad substation, aimed at boosting the export of electricity to Afghanistan. This infrastructure improvement stresses Turkmenistan's commitment to enhancing bilateral trade and connectivity.
In response, Governor Mawlana Noor Ahmad Islamjar emphasized the urgency of advancing the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project. He also proposed convening a meeting involving transport departments from Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan to discuss the reopening of the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan route, crucial for regional trade.
Furthermore, Governor Islamjar requested simplified visa procedures for Afghan traders transporting fresh and dried fruits into Turkmenistan. This request aligns with Turkmenistan's earlier commitment, as voiced by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty (People’s Council), to facilitate visa issuance for Afghan businessmen and transport workers during a diplomatic meeting in February 2024 with Afghanistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amirkhan Muttaki.
