Javlon Vakhabov, Director of the International Institute of Central Asia (IICA), and Sanzhar Mukanbetov, Director of the National Institute for Strategic Initiatives (NISI) under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, met in Bishkek to discuss progress in regional integration and cooperation in key sectors. The meeting culminated in the signing of a comprehensive Plan of Joint Activities for 2024-2025 aimed at deepening the partnership between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Vakhabov and Mukanbetov highlighted several successful initiatives stressing the improved relations and collaborative spirit between the two nations. These include the resolution of border disputes, the upcoming launch of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz automobile plant, agreements on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction, and the ongoing Kambarata HPP-1 hydropower project.
Sanzhar Mukanbetov commended Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's policies that have fostered friendship, good-neighborliness, and mutual understanding across Central Asia. These efforts, he noted, have significantly contributed to regional unity and progress.
The newly signed Plan of Joint Activities outlines specific actions to enhance cooperation between IICA and NISI. Key areas of focus include:
- Exchange of Visits: Facilitate mutual visits to foster direct communication and collaboration between experts and officials from both countries.
- Conferences and Events: Organize conferences aimed at deepening strategic partnerships, discussing the integration of digital technologies in transport and logistics, and addressing challenges in climate change and water security.
- Digital Technology Integration: Promote the adoption of advanced digital solutions in transport and logistics to enhance efficiency and connectivity.
- Climate Change and Water Security: Explore collaborative initiatives to tackle environmental challenges, focusing on sustainable water management and climate resilience.
- High-Level Consultations: Conduct regular consultations to prepare for high-level events and meetings, ensuring alignment and coordination on key issues.
Additionally, the agreement includes plans to host a creative evening in the second half of the year at the IICA, celebrating the legacy of the renowned Kyrgyz writer, public figure, and diplomat Chingiz Aitmatov. This event will feature experts from both countries and aim to highlight cultural and intellectual contributions, fostering greater mutual appreciation and understanding.
