President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed a delegation from the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on May 22, led by its chairman Numan Kurtulmuş, who is on an official visit to Uzbekistan, presidential press service reported.
At the onset of the meeting, Chairman Kurtulmuş conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to President Mirziyoyev.
The meeting highlighted the current high level of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Turkey, marked by frequent and active contacts and exchanges at various levels. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the growing indicators of mutual trade turnover and investment, the increasing number of joint projects and enterprises, and the higher frequency of flights between the two countries. Additionally, the organization of joint cultural events has further solidified the bond between Uzbekistan and Turkey.
A significant portion of the discussions was dedicated to the fruitful ties established between the legislative bodies of the two countries. President Mirziyoyev and Chairman Kurtulmuş emphasized the importance of further developing inter-parliamentary relations. They noted the active participation of friendship groups and specialized committees in shaping the agenda of Uzbek-Turkish cooperation and ensuring the implementation of agreements at the highest level.
Particular attention was paid to promoting investment programs and stimulating tourism, business, and educational exchanges. Both leaders acknowledged the potential benefits of these initiatives in strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkey.
Moreover, the prospects for enhanced interaction between the parliaments of the two countries within international structures, particularly the Organization of Turkic States, were also discussed. This aspect of the talks highlighted the shared vision of Uzbekistan and Turkey for greater cooperation on a regional and global scale.
