Humo Air, a low-cost airline operating in Uzbekistan, has announced its decision to temporarily suspend domestic flights within the country starting from March 10. This announcement follows changes made to the airline's schedule for March 1–10, confirmed by the company's press service.
The updated flight schedule, including modifications to flights to Samarkand, Fergana, and Nukus, will soon be available on the company's website, according to the Humo Air administration as reported by Gazeta.uz. Passengers holding tickets for travel between March 11 and March 30 are assured of refunds, with further details on refund options to be provided soon. Currently, the airline's website features a ticket refund request form to facilitate the process.
The decision to suspend domestic flights is part of Humo Air's broader strategy to prepare for the launch of international routes to destinations such as Kazakhstan, UAE, Turkey, China, Qatar, and Azerbaijan. This transition entails replanning and restructuring efforts within the airline. The temporary cessation of domestic operations is directly linked to this process.
Established in January 2020 on the foundation of the state-owned Special Aviation Works Airlines, Humo Air initially operated 43 An-2 aircraft for short domestic routes as an economical alternative to Uzbekistan Airways. Following privatization in January 2023 by Swiss investment company ValleyRoad Capital S.A. for $2.4 mn, Humo Air committed to expanding its domestic flight offerings to 60 routes by 2025 and modernizing its aircraft fleet.
In line with these objectives, Humo Air announced plans last October to acquire three Airbus aircraft by the end of the year and significantly increase flight frequencies, aiming to serve over 200,000 passengers through more than 1,000 flights in the first quarter.
