Saudi Arabia is considering the possibility of canceling visas for citizens of Uzbekistan, as per to a report from Dunyo News Agnecy. This development follows a meeting between Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Nodirjon Turgunov and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs, Ali Al-Yousef.
During the meeting, Al-Yousef praised Uzbekistan's impressive rates of growth and development. He highlighted the positive outcomes of political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two nations, which were held in Riyadh in March of this year. Al-Yousef expressed his admiration, saying,
"Uzbekistan is demonstrating exceptional rates of growth and development, which is admirable."
Al-Yousef also welcomed the recent changes to Uzbekistan's visa policy for Saudi citizens.
"We are very pleased that from January 1, 2023, citizens of Saudi Arabia will be able to enter Uzbekistan without a visa for 30 days. This, in turn, contributes to an increase in the flow of tourists and growth in mutual trade," he said.
This step is seen as a part of broader efforts to enhance bilateral relations. Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia have previously expressed intentions to boost mutual tourist flows and strengthen cooperation in various fields, including education and agriculture. The cancellation of visas for short stays for diplomatic passport holders from both countries is another significant milestone in their diplomatic relations.
In addition to these diplomatic and cultural exchanges, Saudi Arabia has emerged as a major investor in Uzbekistan's energy sector, further solidifying the economic ties between the two nations.
Earlier Daryo reported that in January, Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a protocol permitting Uzbek citizens to enter the UAE without a visa.
