Uzbekistan to enhance intellectual property protection
The Senate of Uzbekistan has received a bill aimed at enhancing the legal protection of intellectual property, as announced by the press service of the upper house of the Oliy Majlis on April 24.
The proposed document underwent scrutiny by the Committee on Science, Education, and Health, where senators emphasized that its enactment would serve to safeguard the integrity of intellectual creations and bolster mechanisms dedicated to upholding the rights and interests of their owners.
Participants of the session underscored the prospective impact of the forthcoming law in curbing instances of copyright infringement. Furthermore, it is anticipated to facilitate the implementation of measures geared towards safeguarding rights pertaining to creative endeavors within the digital domain.
The Ministry of Justice had previously submitted a bill to the Oliy Majlis in October 2023, focusing on fortifying copyright protection in the digital sphere. The proposed legislation introduced personal liability for infringements on the part of both owners and administrators of online platforms.
