Nokia entered into a strategic partnership with Perfectum to develop Uzbekistan's first nationwide 5G standalone (SA) network. This initiative, announced on April 24, marks a pivotal step in the adoption of advanced 5G technology across Uzbekistan, setting a precedent for digital connectivity in Central Asia.
Nokia will serve as the sole supplier for the project, providing Perfectum with a full suite of 5G SA solutions including radio access, transport, core networks, and applications for network automation, service orchestration, mediation, and charging. The deployment will utilize Red Hat OpenShift within the Nokia Cloud Platform to establish a robust infrastructure.
The initial commercial launch of the 5G network is planned for 4Q24 in Tashkent, with a systematic expansion anticipated to reach all regions of Uzbekistan over the following two years. This network will offer Perfectum’s subscribers enhanced internet and voice services with national coverage.
The rollout of the 5G network is designed to meet Uzbekistan’s digital transformation goals and the increasing regional demand for high-speed connectivity. It will improve network capacity and data rates, facilitating various applications including remote work, telemedicine, and smart city technologies. The network is also expected to enable the development of new services and applications across multiple sectors, contributing to the growth of the digital economy.
Dmitry Shukov, CEO of Perfectum, commented on the partnership: “Nokia’s expertise and reputation make them a suitable partner for launching the 5G era in Uzbekistan. This deployment is critical for maintaining pace with the rapidly evolving digital landscape in the region and utilizing the potential of 5G technology.”
Dr. Rolf Werner, Head of Europe, Mobile Networks at Nokia, stated: “We are committed to assisting Perfectum in the deployment of a nationwide 5G network in Uzbekistan. Our continuous support, training, and collaboration will help Perfectum achieve its objectives of providing an enhanced network experience and advancing the country’s digital transformation.”
