Uzbekistan to outsource road maintenance to private businesses
The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan has approved a temporary procedure for outsourcing road maintenance work to the private sector, as per the resolution published on Lex.uz on April 24.
The selection of outsourcing entities will be conducted through a competitive or tender process, with the best proposals being considered for the task. Announcements regarding the competition or tender will be disseminated on the government procurement portal and the website of the Committee on Roads.
Documentation requirements for prospective participants will encompass details on the types of required work, anticipated costs of road section operation, and a comprehensive list of necessary documents. However, certain companies will be ineligible to partake in these competitions or tenders, including those lacking a minimum of three years' experience in road construction, those with founders who are close relatives of the contracting organization, and those listed in the register of unscrupulous performers with overdue debts on taxes or loans, among others.
Earlier Daryo reported that ADB has pledged a loan of $240 mn for a major project in Uzbekistan, involving the construction of internal roads with cement-concrete padding. The loan comes with a grace period of five years and repayment scheduled over a 25-year period.
