Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has received Pakistan's newly appointed Ambassador Ahsan Wagan, who presented his credentials, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports. Views were exchanged on a wide range of cooperation issues in sectors such as transport, communications and energy.
"A separate topic was the discussion of ways to increase the pace of construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, power transmission lines and fibre-optic communications along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route".
Berdimuhamedov stressed that the implementation of these large-scale projects would give a strong impetus to the socio-economic development of the region.
Experts told Daryo that Pakistan is experiencing severe fuel shortages and is seeking to diversify its supplies. Islamabad continues to lobby for the TAPI gas pipeline project, the construction of the Afghan section of which is being discussed with the new Taliban government in Kabul, which came to power in August 2021.
Securing and financing major infrastructure projects in Afghanistan is on the agenda. Meanwhile, liquefied natural gas deliveries from Turkmenistan to Pakistan via Afghanistan's Kandahar province have already begun.
