By the end of 2023, the trade turnover within the agricultural sector between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom had soared to $59mn, marking a 72% increase compared to the previous year's $34.3mn, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan reported.
To further solidify and expand trade ties between Kazakhstan and UK, Aidarbek Saparov, the Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, convened a meeting with Kathy Leach, the UK Ambassador to Kazakhstan, on April 4, the Ministry of Agriculture reported. The focal point of discussion was centered around the streamlining of export certificates to facilitate enhanced cooperation and the supply of diverse products from the UK.
Minister Saparov underscored Kazakhstan's immense potential in producing and exporting high-quality, environmentally sustainable organic agricultural goods. He emphasized the country's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for agricultural trade and investment.
Moreover, Saparov articulated the keen interest of Kazakhstani businesses in exporting an array of goods to the UK market. These commodities include fish and fish products, aquaculture produce, sturgeon caviar, meat, poultry, milk, dairy products, and unique items such as dry camel and mare's milk, known as Sauma.
The minister disclosed that the Ministry of Agriculture had received veterinary and sanitary requirements from the British authorities pertaining to certain animal products. Currently, the department is poised to initiate the coordination process for dairy products and horses.
Furthermore, strides have been made in aligning the veterinary certificate format for exporting CRC seeds from the UK to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) nations. Efforts are underway to finalize coordination on five additional veterinary certificate formats.
In response to the concerns raised by Minister Saparov, Ambassador Kathy Leach pledged her commitment to resolving the identified issues. She underscored the UK's keen interest in fostering robust collaboration with Kazakhstan and assured her assistance in addressing the challenges hindering trade facilitation.
