In a diplomatic meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan, warmly received Nusrat Ghani, the UK Minister of State at the Department for Business and Trade, Minister of State for the Investment Security Unit, and Minister for Industry and Economic Security. The meeting underscored the robust economic ties between the two nations, with President Tokayev emphasizing the United Kingdom's pivotal role as one of Kazakhstan's top trading partners.
During the discussions, President Tokayev highlighted the growing economic collaboration between Kazakhstan and the UK, emphasizing that the UK ranks as the seventh-largest investor in Kazakhstan's economy. Notably, more than 550 British businesses, including industry giants like Shell and Ernst & Young, are currently operational in Kazakhstan.
The president pointed out a remarkable 60% increase in trade turnover between the two countries over the past year, reaching a substantial $1.8bn. President Tokayev expressed keen interest in further expanding trade and investment relations with London, citing a reciprocal enthusiasm from the British side for a comprehensive and cooperative partnership.
"We are interested in expanding our trade and investment ties with London. I am pleased to observe that the British side is also interested in developing comprehensive cooperation with Kazakhstan," stated President Tokayev.
In response, Minister Nusrat Ghani conveyed her gratitude to President Tokayev and the people of Kazakhstan for the warm welcome. She emphasized the UK's commitment to nurturing bilateral relations, noting the special importance attached to the development of these ties.
